Random Thoughts On A Sunday

So what to write about when you don’t know what to write about? You clean out the writer’s notebook and do some “random thoughts.”

Why did it take so long for me to discover Snickerdoodle cookies? These things are AWESOME! I can’t believe I just recently discovered them.

I’ve tried. I’ve really tried but I just can’t get into preseason football. I love football. I’d say it’s my favorite sport to watch on TV, but preseason games? Can’t do it. I know it’s important for players trying to make the team but you hardly see your starting quarterback or starting offense for more than the first series or two.

it happened to me again this week. I did an interview with someone that was just SO POSITIVE! I didn’t want the show to end. I could have talked to them all day. It’s not like they ignore the issues in the world but they just have a way of saying, “But, we’ll find a way. We’ll work our way through it.” People like that just give me so much hope. Instead of gossiping or complaining, find a way to make it work.

I’ve done a lot of flying this year and I truly enjoy people watching at airports. On a recent flight I had to make my way to the front of the plane to use the facilities. As I made my way back to my seat I realized that I must be one of the very few travelers that likes to read an actual book. It seemed like everyone was on a tablet, their phone or laptop.

Speaking of reading: Large-print books. Why did I wait so long before I tried these? They are so much easier to read. Especially when you climb in bed and get all tucked in and then realize you left your readers downstairs.

Something I realized this summer: I wish I woke up in the morning with the same energy as my 6-year old grandson.

As you may know, my wife and I are trying to visit all 30 of the Major League Baseball Stadiums. So far we have been to eight. Fenway Park, Yankee Stadium, Citi Field where the Mets play, Camden Yards in Baltimore, Arlington where the Texas Rangers play, Houston, Tampa Bay and now Pittsburgh. We are thoroughly enjoying it but we also try to experience at least one other thing in the city. In Arlington we went to nearby Dallas to see where JFK was shot. To this day it’s still a bit eerie to walk by that. In Houston we went to the Johnson Space Center. In Baltimore it was the Babe Ruth Museum and the Inner Harbor Tour. And last week in Pittsburgh we saw the History and Sports Museum. We learned the history of the Heinz Ketchup company and enjoyed the Mr. Roger’s exhibit because Pittsburgh was where the show was filmed. It’s a little bonus on these baseball trips.

Oh and another thing about these baseball trips: the Red Sox have lost every game we’ve gone to. Maybe soon they pay us to stay away.

I’m currently watching season four of “Reacher” on Prime. What a great show! I read the book just last year but I’m still loving it.

And I’ll leave you with one of my favorite “Thoughts for the Day” from Alice Morse Earle:

Every day may not be good but there’s something good in every day.

I LOVE actual books. The Westport Book fair is a local treasure, and I am waiting for the Book Warehouse in Fall River to open.

I can’t function without my glasses…and I have 6 pairs so they are always nearby. LOL
