“Pete’s Daily Connection”

It Cost HOW Much?

In case you don’t know, I do a daily show with my son, Matt, that you can find on YouTube. “The Pete Braley Show” is live at 8 a.m. and available on YouTube anytime after that. It’s a lot like my old radio show where we talk about stories I’ve found online or what’s happening in the world or our world. We stay away from the hard news because we’d like to offer you an alternative. There are plenty of other sources for news on Ukraine or politics or whatever else you’re interested in.

We try to have some fun with something we call “The Stumpah” (It’s like the old Impossible Question), and a Random Question every day. One of the Random Questions we had this week was: What’s criminally overpriced to you? AND DON’T SAY GAS!

We got quite a few responses. You can join us in the “chat” every morning on the show and we have a few people who actually join us everyday from around the country.

Some of the answers:
Epipens
Rents
Supermarkets
Insulin
Fresh produce
Concessions at sporting events. Paying $14 for a $3 beer.
College
Funerals
Trucks
Bacon

I discovered another one this week: Glasses!

A recent trip to the eye doctor showed, not surprisingly, my prescription had changed. I had noticed I was having a little trouble especially covering football games when the ball got down to the other side of the field. Thank God when I broadcast games for New Bedford Cable Network I have a monitor for replays. It also shows me the live feed so when the ball gets down around the 20-yard line I study the monitor to read numbers.

Thursday I went back to pick out my new glasses. I wanted to wait for Priscilla to be able to go with me since I figured she looks at me the most (Or I hope she does), so I wanted her opinion. It didn’t take long to choose a pair but when we started to go through the procedure… anti-glare, transition lenses so I don’t have to buy a pair of sunglasses… the price came to —- $645!!!! Let’s just say my wife made a wonderful decision to get eye insurance recently and for $3.49 a week the price became much more acceptable.

Wow!

As I look back over the years, which I guess is what I do now, I remember a time I found a website called 39dollarglasses.com. Hey! We were raising four children who all played sports so I was trying to save a buck! Now that I look back at some pictures from that time …. not one of my better decisions. They LOOKED like they were worth $39! Maybe even $29!

My new specs will be in in a week or so. I look forward to being able to see the far end zone or maybe centerfield when I do some baseball. That was another thing: “Fly ball, deep to centerfield (Turn attention to monitor to see if it’s caught), and he makes a terrific catch!”

By the way, one thing I wanted to mention to you….. The YouTube Show is an hour long if not more. I realize you may not have an hour to spend with us but did you know about the “Time stamp?” Every day when the show ends, my son Matt has his post-production duties and one of mine is the time stamp. I go back and enter the “time” that each story happens. So if you’re interested in one story and not another, you can jump around. It looks like this:

You can also find us wherever you go for podcasts.

Oh, and for you longtime listeners who might remember that I had Lasik surgery on my eyes years ago…. It doesn’t always last. I had my eyes done in the 90’s and I remember the doctor telling me that my eyes might start changing in my 50’s. They did. I still had maybe 20 years where I didn’t have to wear glasses or contacts so I do recommend it. I’m also not sure but maybe the procedure has gotten better over the years.

So my friend I will ”see you” soon! Hopefully much clearer!
