I think I’ve mentioned before how I am a list-maker. Always have been. And since I had my stroke, I’ve found it’s even more helpful since I tend to forget some things, plus, it’s a great sense of accomplishment when you can check something off. “Yes! I did that!”
I came across a list the other day on Pinterest. It’s a “January To-Do” list. Some of them are useful, others are not, but I thought I would share a few.
Delete unimportant emails. Do you have some you’re saving? Do you even remember why? Is it a case of, “I need to deal with that.” Wellllll….maybe it’s time to do that or, if it’s really not that important, delete it!
Unsubscribe from email lists. This was a big one for us. I had ordered a gift for my daughter Kat online and it was taking forever to get delivered. My daughter Sarah tried to help me find the original email in my “trash” folder and she couldn’t believe all the email we were getting. She said, “Why don’t you unsubscribe?” The truth? Lazy I guess. Since then though, my wife and I have been unsubscribing. We were getting all kinds of stuff: “Gray Singles.com;” “Good Housekeeping;” some “Dr. Susskind” asking “What does your urine smell like?” Yeah. I don’t know why.
By the way, it’s easy to do. At the bottom of all emails is always the option to “unsubscribe.” We get a lot less now.
Clean junk drawer. I did that recently and we now have two sandwich bags filled with pens and highlighters. Not to mention that I found three keys that I have no idea what they unlock.
Make that doctor’s appointment. It’s another thing that we always seem to put off.
Deal with mismatched socks. If it’s been a while, I have to doubt the other one is going to show up.
Dispose of expired meds. This is one you should do for you and probaby suggest it for friends. It’s dangerous in a number of ways to keep meds you no longer need or have lost their effectiveness.
Clean the inside of your car. Do you dare? I still have nightmares about cleaning under the car seat when the kids were younger. M&M’s, Cheerios and Goldfish Crackers. Some growing hair.
And then there’s purge “crappy” cups. I dont know about you but I have one or two cups or mugs that I keep because, well if nothing else is clean, I might need it.
Yes start the new year with less “stuff.” That way you can gather more stuff!
