“Pete’s Daily Connection”

Woof Wednesday

Hi guys! It’s me, Oscar the Beagle.

I don’t know why this happens but some days I feel good and some days I feel pretty lousy. I guess you humans can’t understand days like that but trust me, we Beagles do.

I cough a lot and have trouble breathing sometimes. Grampy knew I wasn’t feeling good because he opened the dishwasher and I didn’t care. It was too much work to get off my bed.

Then when it was medicine time I didn’t want my cracker either. Chewing just seemed like too much work.

I don’t mean to make them worry but it is nice when they give me hugs and they pet me a lot. Plus I got a nice warm blanket over me that day.

The next day I woke up and felt better and this is where I get ALL confused:

Grampy was HAPPY that I was licking the floor! Really! I even saw him text Grammy, “Guess who’s licking the floor again?? He’s even getting into the dishwasher!” He thinks I can’t read.

I guess this medicine stuff does good work when I need it. It just seems like I’m on so much of it. You wouldn’t believe all the medications I take! You humans just don’t know! I heard Grammy talk about how expensive it is. Just be happy you don’t have to spend money on medicine like we dogs have to.

Another thing I like when I’m not feeling well is that Uncle Matt carried me upstairs and put me on the big bed. Ahhh! They say I should conserve my energy. I could probably still climb the stairs but I think that makes Uncle Matt feel good to do it and I wouldn’t want to take that good feeling away from him. I know, I’m such a caring canine.

Things seem back to normal. Grampy had a snack last night and I brought out one of my best “sad puppy” looks and he gave me two crackers. I helped load the dishwasher again by giving everything a thorough licking and I make sure there are no crumbs on the floor (I’d hate to have Grampy trip over a crumb, so I do all this for him).

We just have to roll with it I guess. I have to learn that I have good days and bad. You humans probably don’t know what that’s like but we doggies do. I’m just glad I have someone to pet me, hug me, and carry me upstairs when I need it.

Note from Baxter: Hello peoples! I just wanted to tell you that Grampy was kind of scared this week when Oscar got sick. Oscar has been sick a couple times and Grammy and Grampy have been sad. I don’t like it when anyone’s sad. It’s kind of a Golden Retriever thing. We don’t do sad.
The thing I wanted to say was, if you do that thing where you pray like Grammy and Grampy do, whatever that is, maybe you could say one for my friend Oscar that he gets all healthy again? He’s a lot of fun. Plus, when he gets in trouble, no one pays attention to what I’m doing. Haha!
Okay, where was I? Oh yeah, my nap.

Woof Wednesday is the world through the eyes of 11-year old Oscar the Beagle. Oscar lives in Fairhaven with Pete, Priscilla and Uncle Matt and his best buddy Baxter the Golden Retriever.
