“Pete’s Daily Connection”

Hi guys! It’s me…..Oscar the Beagle.

It’s been a pretty good week here at the house. Everybody is home, Baxter and I get our walks in with Grammy and Grampy and the weather is nice outside. The grass is green and the wind keeps blowing some sticks down. I like sticks.

Grampy is sneezing about as much as I do. Remember I told you that I have a sinus condition? I think I saw him taking some of my Zyrtecs at night. It’s okay, I don’t mind sharing.

Did I tell ya last week that there’s a new puppy in the neighborhood? Her name is Sage and she’s 8 weeks old. She lives in the yard at the end of our street and we usually see her on walks. I almost missed her that first day because she doesn’t bark yet. I told her, “Kid, if you wanna make it in this neighborhood you gotta learn to bark.” How else can we get cookies?

I tried to explain the neighborhood to her a little but I only had a few minutes before we continued our walk. I told her how the garbage and recycling guy comes on Monday. He’s got a big, scary truck with these robot arms that pick up the barrels. Yeah, we don’t mess with him much. He might pick us up with that robot thing. I wonder where he goes?

The mailman is another issue. That guy comes everyday usually when the humans are having their lunch and it’s our job to protect our people. I’ve been saving my humans for a bunch of years now, and with very little thanks for my efforts I might add. I don’t know where they’d be without me.

I told Sage that we’re lucky to live near the ocean. Grammy and Grampy take us to the beach a lot. With the seaweed and the shells the smells are fantastic! Baxter likes to go swimming but I don’t really like getting wet. I’ll go down to the waterline but that’s about it for me. Baxter goes in and if you toss a tennis ball…… well that’s just about the best thing ever for the old guy. He shakes when he gets out of the water and then rolls in the sand. Bingo! Guaranteed bath night when we get home. I usually disappear so they don’t try to pull that, “While I’m at it, I might as well wash you” game. Grammy ALWAYS tries to pull that one.

Oh, the other night Grammy made some of her chocolate chip cookies. I guess they’re pretty good because Grampy’s been having some every night. I know when she makes them the house smells about as good as Thanksgiving. I don’t really KNOW what they taste like because he never shares no matter how much I turn on the sad puppy eyes. I say that’s not fair! I’m a dog, I eat cookies. Plus, I would share my milk bones with him so I think he should share his chocolate chip cookies. I’ll let you know how this works out.

Is there something special on the TV box this week? Grampy has been staying up a little later than usual watching something where everybody has a stick and they chase a rubber thingy. It doesn’t look like a ball and boy those guys go fast! He scares me every now and then because I’ll be sleeping and all of a sudden he yells, “SCORE!” I usually jump completely off my doggie bed. He laughs. Jerk! Just kidding because I love the guy.

That’s all for now I guess. I haven’t gone out for at least an hour. Maybe there’s some more sticks!
