Greetings from Virginia Beach! Yes I’m still here as my daughter and son-in-law are on a much needed vacation in Disney World. They have scouted it out and planned their day so they will be ready for kick off tonight.
I’ve tried but I just don’t see the Super Bowl hype down here. True the grocery stores are all decked out with football stuff and extra supplies of wings and guacamole but the evening news still leads the sports segment with Virginia college basketball and how the Redskins are rebuilding. (Yawn!) Thankfully I have all the apps for the Boston channels on my phone.
I was at the ATM the other day when I heard a girl behind me, maybe 12, ask her dad, “So who do you want to win the Super Bowl?” He said, “Rams,” and she said, “Me too. I’m tired of the Patriots.” I chuckled.
Congratulations on surviving the Polar Vortex! It got cold here too. I think the weatherman said we had the southern edge of the thing. The low temperature the other night was 17 degrees and you should have seen the news. They had a special report warning the people:
- Leave your water dripping overnight.
- Don’t leave pets outside.
- Dress in layers.
- Don’t be outside for extended periods of time.
They also said there were no school cancellations as of yet, but stay tuned!
For a low of 17 ????
My daughter left me her car to drive this week if I need to go to the grocery store but she made me PROMISE her that if it snowed I would not go out. Even if it’s just an inch. She said it’s not a case that she doesn’t trust me with her car and she knows I have been driving in the snow for 40 years but she said the people down here don’t know what they’re doing in the snow and the city doesn’t treat the roads because they don’t have the equipment.
I don’t think we’ll have any snow as the temperture is suppose to climb to 65 next week. My kids tell me Virginia Beach is like a bi-polar winter. It can be in the 70s one day and 20s the next.
I don’t know what to expect on this Super Bowl Sunday. When I first found out the dates of my daughter’s vacation I told my son Doug (Who also lives down here), “Hey! We can watch the Super Bowl together!” Then the Navy sent him to Key West until next Wednesday. I’m going to get together with my daughter-in-law Marla. She doesn’t watch football but she’s alone too and she said she likes the commercials and wants to know what went on since everyone at work will be talking about it Monday. We’ve coordinated snacks so we should be good. I’ll probably FaceTime the crew back in Massachusetts. I wonder who will take my seat?
Here we go: Pete’s Pats Pick never scientifically proven by anybody but worth a shot…….
The Patriots will win by ONE point and take it down to the wire because they never make things easy. There will be scattered pacing, yelling at the TV and elevated heart rates all over New England.
I also predict that Tony Romo will make some amazing calls but also be so hyped up that he ticks off those that don’t like him. Plus one of the commercials will feature puppies and another will feature beer.
There! That’s all I’ve got.
Now….let me go back and see what the Redskins have to do to rebuild.
