We had a question on the morning show this week: “What’s your favorite day of the week and why?”
My immediate answer was Saturday and some agreed but I was interested in whether or not we’d get any other answers.
One woman commented that now that she’s retired she likes every day except the weekend. I can relate, especially if she’s referring to shopping on the weekend when the stores are crowded. Or, I guess, any other event that you try to go to. My wife, Priscilla, and I decided a long time ago to avoid shopping on weekends. Even at the time when I was working a full time job I was often home by 1 or 2 p.m. and she works two 24-hour shifts a week so we have always had Tuesday, Thursday or Friday afternoons available.
Nobody mentioned Monday as their favorite day which I guess is a no-brainer. I was surprised because I know many hair stylists have Monday off and some ministers or priests.
Years ago I learned that Tuesday is the most productive day of the week so maybe that’s why no one picked it. We’re too busy. The theory is that Monday you are still in the post-weekend mode thinking and talking about what you did. Wednesday is hump day so you start thinking about NEXT weekend. Thursday is just a day to make you wait for Friday and then who feels like working hard on a Friday? Plus, why start a major project on Friday? You’ll just have to stop and then start again on Monday. Why not wait?
I’d like to tell you that Sunday is my favorite because it’s the Lord’s day but I guess it goes back to memories of Sunday night thinking, “Oh boy! Back to work/school tomorrow!” I do like my Football Sunday’s though.
So that pretty much leaves us with…..
I love Saturday! Very rarely do I set an alarm clock for Saturday morning unless there’s a specific reason. I can take it slow and enjoy my coffee. At times it can be a busy day because that seems to be the day we get a lot of our “stuff” done. I just seem to be able to set my own pace on Saturday. And when Saturday ends you know there’s another day coming before you have to gear up for work or school.
I know everyone’s life is different and some people have to work Saturday. That’s actually why I asked that question this week. I know my barbershop is open Saturday so they might pick Wednesday as their favorite day because they close Wednesday since they work Saturday.
One woman actually commented on Facebook that her favorite day was Thursday. Obviously I asked why and she replied, “Because you can now truly anticipate the coming of a FULL fun- filled weekend!” Okay…I like it, I like it.”
Maybe one of the best responses was one of the first ones I received. A regular viewer/listener commented, “I say any day that ends with ‘Y.’ Each day is a gift!”
Well said!
