Happy Easter to my friends who observe! Happy Sunday to those who do not!
Today is the day Christians celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus.
Resurrection. I found myself pondering that word this week.
Off to the dictionary we go!
According to Miriam Webster:
“Resurrection: The rising of Christ from the dead.”
Interestingly the synonyms for resurrection include: “revival, resurgence, rebirth and renewal.”
Hmmm.
An example is, “He was enjoying the resurrection of his career.” Or, “A resurrection of an old theory.”
That brought a question to mind: Have you had a resurrection in your life?
We say “Hallelujah” for the Resurrection of Jesus, why not say “Hallelujah” for the resurrection we experience in life?
Maybe you resurrected your career?
Maybe you resurrected a relationship.
About a year ago I told you how I had seen two people reconnect after not talking for 25 or 30 years. How many people have done something like this to the point they can’t even remember what the original disagreement was about? This resurrection has been wonderful to watch.
My faith in our youth has been resurrected. I notice it especially when I broadcast a high school sports event. No, it’s not the game itself or an individual that scores the most points or throws a no-hitter. It’s on display when I have students who hold the door for me or allow me to pass when they’re walking by. They see my cane and immediately go out of their way to make sure I can get where I have to go. Do all the kids do that? No, but I would say it happens more often than you’d think it would.
Maybe you have seen someone resurrect their confidence after a setback in their health.
Has someone found happiness again after suffering a great loss? No one knows how long the grieving process will last but when someone finds happiness or love again… “Hallelujah!”
Maybe you have been able to resurrect your faith. I know some people who struggle, especially after a loss. I understand, yet, I have seen and experienced some wonderful and amazing things in this world that I can only attribute to God.
The birth of my children; the peacefulness of watching my grandchildren sleep; the beauty of a sunrise, sunset or gazing out at the ocean going on for miles and miles. I haven’t personally seen the Grand Canyon but friends that have said it is also an amazing thing to see.
I experience the wonder of God when I sit at a funeral and listen to how the deceased affected the lives of so many people.
Even if you are not religious, consider ways in which you might have a resurrection in your life. Is it time to forgive someone? Is it time to move on from your grief or sadness? Maybe it’s time to get back in the game either personally or professionally?
If you are religious, celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus and the rebirth and renewal that it brings us all.
It’s never too late for a resurrection.
