Random Thoughts On A Summer Sunday

Have you ever been reading a good book and got near the end but you just…couldn’t…keep…your eyes open…anymore? You struggle through and FINISH it! You discover the ending! Find out who the killer was! Then realize you have nothing to read tomorrow? Now what do I do? It’s Sunday and the library is closed!

My wife moved the bread.

It’s been 10 or 20 years and the bread has always been in a basket across from the stove. Last week she went shopping and found a nice container for the bread and put it near the stove. I wonder how many times I’m going to go to the old location before I retrain my muscle memory.

We lost two wonderful people this week.

Dr. John Fletcher died Wednesday. He was a long time educator in our area. Many people remember him as their principal. I got to know Dr. Fletcher in his later years when he was with the school committee.

The other loss was Peter Muise. He was a banker, mentor, non-profit champion and so much more. I simply knew Peter as a really nice man who would check in with me through social media just to see how I was doing.

Two men who made a huge contribution to so many. May their lives inspire us.

To my fellow arthritis sufferers: Can you imagine if you woke up and discovered nothing hurt today? Yeah, me neither. I try to trick myself into thinking the pain is a positive. “At least you know you’re alive!”

Twelve hours in the car Wednesday to go see my grandson, plus twelve hours in the car Saturday coming home! Babysitting Liam and getting hugs = PRICELESS! Now excuse me while I spend today stretched out and recovering.

The Red Sox beat the Yankees last night but it hasn’t been a good week for the boys. I had to laugh reading some of the posts online this week. “We suck! Why don’t we get rid of this guy? We need pitching!” Why do I laugh? How many times over the years have I read or heard the SAME questions? They have good years, they have bad years. They’ve been good for awhile and maybe we got a little spoiled?

I gotta admit, the Yankees are having a helluva year. (Did I just say that?)

We drove through eight states and three different kinds of weather yesterday. We pulled into town about 6:30 p.m. last night and I realized: we live in such a beautiful place! I know, I may get a little critical in the winter (A little?) but to see everything so green and lush and alive….takes your breath away.

I saw an interesting Tik Tok this week that said 90’s babies have been alive for the BEST music. Ummmm….I’m not so sure! The guy did say it started with being exposed to their parent’s music and then their own but…

I was born in 1961 but my real appreciation for music came in the 70s. Would you agree that you probably start appreciating music in your early teens? For me that was 1974 and I was 13. “Crocodile Rock” by Elton John was probably one of the first records I bought. Then of course the Eagles and so much more. I discovered the Beatles and Beach Boys when I started in radio.

We’ve been exposed to all that great music and bands and solo artists and before you say, “Today’s music sucks!”, just remember that your parents probably said that about our music. I do like some of the stuff out now but, thanks to streaming, you can now pull up “our” music anytime, anywhere.

Thanks for letting me empty my brain for the week! Enjoy your Sunday!
