Year End Thoughts On The New Show

Happy New Year friends!

It’s that time of the year where we look back on the past twelve months and review. It’s also time for the year end blog so I thought I’d combine them.

This is the year we started the Pete Braley Show on YouTube and I just want to thank each and every person that has checked us out even if it’s only an occasional episode. Matt and I are amazed that there are some regular viewers/listeners that are with us every morning. Thank you so much. Your participation in the Chat is always fun and adds to the fun.

For those that don’t know, the show was my son Matt’s idea. I had spent almost a year-and-a-half in Virginia Beach providing daycare for my grandson Liam. It was time for Liam to start hanging with kids his own age and I was missing home. Matt and my wife, “Trish”, (Haha “My name’s not ‘Trish’”) were worried that I would be bored after working each day with Liam.

Matt knew how I really missed being on the radio and how I enjoyed putting the show together so he came up with the idea that we do a one-hour show on YouTube. He would take care of all the technical issues, the set, cameras and lighting and all I had to do was provide content. Sounded good to me!

I came home in the beginning of May and we set a start date for the show for June 1st. We did go back-and-forth on what time we should do the show every day. I’ll be honest: I was not too excited about a 6 a.m. start. I don’t wake up at 4 a.m. anymore unless I have a plane to catch. We settled on a live show at 8 a.m. It usually ends up being an hour long. That’s my goal but we have had some shows come up short and some have gone over. That used to stress me out because I was so used to networks and timing things out to the top of the order. Matt reminds me that it’s “our show.” “If you only feel like doing 40 minutes some days… so be it!”

I’d just like to take this time to thank everyone who has tuned in. I didn’t know what to expect and Matt keeps telling me not to dwell on numbers.

Matt : “Are you having fun doing it?”

Me: “Yeah sure!”

Matt: “Good enough!”

Thank you to those that are there with us live at 8 a.m. and thanks to everyone else that watches it later in the day. Thank you to those podcast listeners we have too.

I’ll admit it, I miss doing the show while we’re on a break here but we have a number of things going on that would make it difficult to commit to every morning.

This is a good time to look at the show and freshen up some things. If there is anything you would like to see more of just let me know. Let me know if there’s something you’d like to see changed too. We have some new features coming when we return.

I’ve had a few people I meet ask what the show is about. I always had a problem explaining what my radio show was about too.

It’s just a show with a father and son talking about what’s going on in the world while trying to keep it positive. We focus on some news, sports and entertainment news with some games mixed in. One thing I am really enjoying is how the two of us (me and Matt) can look at the same story with two different takes on it. Especially since I’m 60 and he’s 23. It’s interesting.

So let me know what you would like to see more or less of. And you could do me a favor if you don’t mind: I’m discovering that some of my former listeners don’t know how to find me because they’re not comfy with the internet. If you could show them how to find me and maybe spread the news I would appreciate it.

For now…Happy New Year! Let’s see what we can discover in this new year.

I wholeheartedly agree that you need and deserve a break. At first I didn’t know how my days would look without starting with the Pete Braley Show. My family has been here and keeping me occupied ❤️ I am looking forward to starting my days again with you and Matt and TPBS’s regulars. Until then I’m going to be making it a great day! You both deserve a well-earned break although we faithful are missing you. The idea of having a segment about cooking new recipes that you’ve heard about on the show has been banted about. I personally would like to see once a month a Foodie Friday. The concept being that you and Matt would cook from a recipe you’ve not done before (No Alfredo Anything and No Burritos) like the creme brulee the brisket and others that come up. You would each have the recipe but make the dish separately and then Trish (my name’s not Trish) what do a blind taste test to pick the winning result. Or something along those lines. Happy New Year to your entire family and to my TPBS family! Diane (my name’s Diane)
