“Pete’s Daily Connection”

Not Ready Yet

I get it. It’s been hot. In fact, I don’t think I went outside Friday unless the puppy had to do what puppies need to do. I pretty much stayed in the A/C all day. But I’m not ready yet. Ready for what?

A friend of mine had a post on her Facebook page this week that featured pictures of Fall: Pumpkins, a path through the fallen leaves, blankets and candles. Her message was “Sorry but I can’t be the only one who’s over this heat.”

I’M NOT READY YET!

We had a story on the show the other day about how Dunkin’ (Dunkin’ Donuts to us old folks), was bringing back their fall menu with pumpkin spice muffins and all the rest on August 18th. Yikes!

Yes it’s been hot but it just seems like we wait months and months for the nice weather and after a few days or weeks of the heat we wish it away.

I think summer has always been my favorite season. I think I would rank them:

  • Summer
  • Fall
  • Spring
  • Winter

And sometimes Winter might even be higher than Spring if it’s a lousy Spring. I think sometimes Spring just acts like an extension of winter and then — BAM! Summertime!

I’ve heard the argument before about how in the winter you can always get warmer by putting more clothes on but in the summer you can only take so much off and you still can’t get cooler. We are blessed to live in a world with air conditioning.

I read a story about the Heatwave of 1911 where people in the northeast were driven insane and 211 people died. Railroad tracks buckled and people slept outside. There was no air conditioning and no way to find relief.

Nowadays we can at least head for the mall or a movie theater that’s cool or if you have a hundred or two you can go to a Walmart, or back-in-the-day Benny’s (I miss Benny’s), and get some some A/C or at least a fan. It’s always fun to visit my children in Virginia Beach where just about everybody has central air. They think our little window units are cute when they come to visit.

So yes, I do like those cool fall mornings and evenings, the leaves changing and bringing out my favorite hoodies. Football Sundays, apple pies and beef stew on a chilly night. Just maybe give me a few more weeks in my flip flops.

My sentiments exactly. Winter is way to long and summer gets wished away to get to pumpkin time and Halloween. Listen people we can have pumpkin stuff and Halloween on a 70 degree day as well as a 45 degree one. Please slow the roll toward Winter!
