This week, after more than a year, I went to the library! Oh how I missed it.
I’ve always loved going to the library. Of course, the fact that we have one of the most beautiful libraries in the country is probably one reason. I wrote a blog when I first went down to Virginia Beach about how they had a very nice library but it couldn’t really compare to the Millicent Library.
I missed the library when it closed because of Covid. They did open in such a way that you could order a book and then drive by and pick it up but that meant I couldn’t do one of the things I liked the most about going to the library…..browsing through all the books and reading the book jacket to see if you would like it or not. I guess I could have Googled it and then put in my order but it wouldn’t be the same.
I am happy to say that I didn’t have to give up reading during the pandemic. Fortunately some of my children like to read so I was able to go through their books and find some to enjoy. I also used the Hoopla app that the Fairhaven Library told me about so I was able to borrow books and read them on my phone. I think I’ve told you before though that I prefer to hold the book in my hands and not a device. Plus, don’t they say you shouldn’t be on your phone before bed? Doesn’t that also apply to reading a book on your phone?
Ahh but to visit the library, wander the aisles, that was fantastic. Of course I think every book I was looking for was on the bottom shelf today but I dealt with it. I’m just happy I could still find my library card.
So I’m happy I can get back to my usual routine. About every two or three weeks I can look forward to a trip to the library. That’s about how long I need to finish a book. I know I could borrow more than one at a time but I like my visits. It will give me a chance to catch up with everybody and see what they’ve been up to.
We’re getting there. Each and every day seems to bring a little more normalcy.
