It felt so good to be back at it.
My son Matt and I started our new talk show on YouTube this week. It’s live weekday mornings at 8 a.m. or you can watch it anytime on YouTube. Just search “The Pete Braley Show” then subscribe.

I think we had a good first week but one of the things I noticed is that I just love putting it together every day and then the actual show. It just feels good to have something that I need to do every day. That’s really why my son came up with this idea. He, along with my wife, worried that after I spent the past 16 months working with my grandson every day that I might feel lost.
A typical day starts with the alarm going off at 6:45 a.m. Yeah, I wasn’t ready to go back to the 4 a.m. call. After a shower and coffee I do a quick check to see what happened overnight and especially the sports scores. On our little set at 7:55 a.m. for Matt to check cameras and microphones and then we’re live at 8. I really like it when people participate by writing in the live chat. We don’t have a way to take your calls yet so this gives us a way to communicate. Once the show ends around 9 a.m. it’s time for another cup of coffee and then the prep starts for tomorrow.
Back when I was doing the radio show someone asked my wife, “Where does he come up with all this stuff?” The answer is I read a lot. I usually go online to a few different sources I follow. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Tik Tok, Boston.com, all the TV stations, Buzzfeed, TMZ, Reddit, just to name a few. I spend about an hour or more.
Fortunately I can take notes on my phone because, at least a couple times a day, Matt will say, “Make a note that we should talk about….”
When night comes I check the news before bed and make note of what to use in the morning and then it’s lights out around 10 p.m.
I don’t honestly know how long we’ll do this show but for now I’m just enjoying the process. It’s good to have a purpose. I wrote in my book about the importance of “having a reason to get out of bed.” If you have someone in your life who was “medically retired” like I was, you can help them by helping to find that reason.
It’s funny how I came across this video on TikTok a few days before we started the show.
