Woof Wednesday- One Final Time

Hi everybody! I’m Baxter, Oscar’s friend, and I just wanted to say goodbye to my buddy.

If you don’t know, my friend went to sleep Saturday night and then didn’t wake up in the morning. He had been real sick and had trouble breathing. The medicine they put him on did all kinds of stuff to him. He was losing his fur and had a lot of other problems too. I really felt bad for him but there wasn’t anything I could do.

Oscar came to our house a long time ago. It was just me with the kids and mom and dad when he came along. At first I thought I wasn’t going to like him moving in with us but mom and dad always made sure that whenever they gave attention to Oscar they would play with me too. There was always two bowls of ice cream to lick and two beaters to clean when mom made cake. Yeah, I like cake. Oscar used to like it too. Actually there wasn’t anything he didn’t like.

We came to be real good friends. Whenever the humans had to go out we always had each other to hang with. If he took the couch I would take the loveseat. And bedtime was fun: we were fine as long as mom or dad was away. There was plenty of room to stretch out.

We never really had a fight except for that time when he tried to eat my food a few weeks ago. The medicine he was on made him super hungry so after he ate his food he just came over and started to eat out of my bowl. I put a stop to that right away. All I had to do was pin him to the floor and he got the message.

I’m going to miss you pal. I already do. We went for a walk down by the beach today and you weren’t there. I look at the doggie bed in the corner expecting to see you but it’s just empty. We did medicine time last night before bed, and you weren’t there.

Mom and dad seem to be petting me more than they have in the past. I don’t know if they’re doing that to make me feel better or they need it so they will feel better. Either way is okay.

I miss you my friend. Don’t worry, I’ll take care of the humans and snuggle with them when they cry. I hope you feel better now my friend. I’ll see you again.

Baxter, thanks for filling in for your best buddy Oscar, he liked you very much I could tell the way he spoke of you. He is at the bridge with all the other pets now that feel fine and not sick anymore, I am sure he will make a lot of friends. I said a prayer for him last night. Hope you continue to fill in for him on Wednesdays I would like that, take care and keep your Mom and Dad and Uncle Matt from getting too sad, let them pet you a lot, they just might need too sometimes.❤️
