Raising Grampy – Chapter Two

Hi everybody! Liam here, just hanging out with Grampy.

Well we’ve made it through our first week and I’ve realized….I got my work cut out for me with this guy. Don’t get me wrong, he’s doing a good job. I have him trained already: I act a little fussy and he gets right on it. Nice.

I’ve had to adjust to a few things. When my mom was home before she had to go back to work, she would eat healthy meals every morning like oatmeal or a fruit smoothie. Things are a little different with this guy.

No he didn’t give me any. I just have my bubba with milk.

We have pretty busy days. Mom leaves for work around 8. (Whatever 8 is. I don’t have a watch yet. I can’t even tell time yet.) Daddy leaves during dark time. He has to go to work on an aircraft carrier. That’s a big boat. I think he’s the cruise director.

So Grampy takes over around 8:00. I usually have a little breakfast bubba while he watches something called “The Today Show.” I like that Al Roker. He wears funny glasses.

I take a little nap after. Mom gets me up too early.

Then it’s time to get dressed. I like time on my changing table. I like to kick and squirm, especially when Grampy tries to put my socks on. Haha! And when he gets one of my legs in the pants, he goes to the other leg so I like to take the first leg out again. Haha! Oh we have such a good time!

The rest of the day is spent playing. It’s a tough job but I think he’s up to it.

I have to do stupid “Tummy Time.” They say it’s to make me stronger but I think it’s just to make me tired. I’d like to see Grampy do Tummy Time.

Late in the morning we go for a walk if the water isn’t falling from the sky. Why does the water fall from the sky? Grampy says it’s so the flowers will grow. He talks to me a lot during our walk, showing me the trees and the birds. I hope there won’t be a quiz about this because I don’t take any notes. I don’t think I can take notes yet.

After lunch we usually have “Story Time.” Grampy reads really good stories and makes funny sounds. I think he tries to get me to take a good nap after but I usually don’t sleep for more than a half hour. There’s just so much going on that I don’t want to miss anything!

Oh….one other thing we do is FaceTime with my Grammy.

Just between you and me….I think Grampy really misses her. But guess what? She’s going to come and play with me next week! Don’t tell Grampy but I’ve already made a reservation for him to take her out to dinner. He’ll have to use his own credit card though because I don’t have one.

So yeah I guess he’s doing okay. It’s only been a week but so far we’re having fun.

“Raising Grampy” is the world through the eyes of 3-month-old Liam. Pete is currently in Virginia Beach where he takes care of his grandson during the day as “Grampnanny.”

Liam, you are such a lucky little guy. Grampy is such an awesome reader. He use to read to my students at school when I was a teacher. The kids always looked forward to his visit.
