Baby Loves His Tunes

We’re Talkin’ Tunes on this Tuesday.

The other day I mentioned in a blog that my grandson Liam has his own playlist and I thought I would explain because I used it again today and it’s so cool.

For those of you who don’t “do” Spotify or any of the other streaming services, let me explain. I have a Spotify account which is basically like I’m part of this record store. Yeah, I used to buy records. I would go to Saltmarsh’s downtown because they had the WRKO Top 30 list and I could track the songs and learn what Dale Dorman looked like. I also went to the Music Box. But enough of Memory Lane. I pay about $9.99 for Spotify every month and I get unlimited songs.

When I want to hear a certain song I just search for it. Then I can save it to a playlist and call that playlist whatever I want. I just have a few: “Country,” “Christmas,” and “Favorites.” This one has everything from James Taylor to Bruno Mars to Fleetwood Mac to “Stairway to Heaven.” My wife has one called “Driving Songs.” You could name it whatever you want.

When my daughter was pregnant with Liam, she started a playlist that just has a baby emoji on it. 😋 She says, “I read something that said babies remember familiar songs from when they were in the womb so I started a playlist for Liam. I wasn’t going to do classical music like they suggested so I did the Beatles and some feel-good songs.” Kenny Chesney wasn’t on the playlist originally. It was on her “Drive home from work” playlist and since he heard it every night (while in the womb), he just fell in love with it. Oh, and when she was pregnant she would put headphones right on her belly.

The playlist includes:

Everything’s Gonna Be Allright” by David Lee Murphy and Kenny Chesney

Here Comes The Sun” – Beatles

Somewhere Over The Rainbow” – Israel Kamakawio’ole

You Are The Sunshine of My Life” by Stevie Wonder

“A Million Dreams” by Pink

Three Little Birds” – Bob Marley

20 songs in all.

Yesterday I was walking the little dude around Sarah’s neighborhood, doing my Grampy thing, when he started to get fussy. He had just eaten so I knew it wasn’t that. I felt like the diaper situation should be okay so I took out my phone, called up the “Liam playlist,” fired off Kenny Chesney, and he calmed right down. It’s almost comical to watch.

So if you have someone in your life who’s expecting, I would highly recommend they try this. We have used the tunes on car trips, grocery shopping, at home, just about everywhere and it works!
