Hi guys! It’s me, Oscar the Beagle and I think I need a hobby. I was thinking about this because Grampy was saying he needs a hobby.
I need one because I was thinking the other day how I like to sleep, then eat, then sleep and eat. I guess as I get older I’m wondering if I should be doing more.
Baxter has a bunch of toys but I was never really into that. Uncle Matt tosses a tennis ball to Baxter sometimes. I tried playing that game once but everytime I brought the ball back he just threw it again! I quickly figured out that if I didn’t go get it, he wouldn’t keep throwing it. There! Let’s take a nap.
Grampy already has a few hobbies. He likes to cook but that would never work for me because I would eat all the ingredients the minute I took them out and I would never cook anything.
I thought about maybe taking piano lessons. Grampy showed me a video the other day of a dog playing.
Just a few problems: We don’t have room for a piano and I can’t read sheet music.
Uncle Matt plays guitar but I can’t see how I could do that: no thumbs, remember? Try to play cords with no thumbs. I can’t even hold the pick.
I was thinking about golf but I don’t think they make a set of clubs in my size. Then there’s the whole thumb thing again. Grampy probably wouldn’t let me drive the cart either.
Kayaking was quickly dismissed as I would have no way to propel the ‘yak. Surfing is a possibility but then again I really don’t like the water.
Grampy likes to read a lot but I prefer to wait for the movie.
Stamp collecting would probably get all sticky. That probably eliminates scrapbooking too.
So what’s a Beagle to do?
The family had the Fantasy Football draft the other night but I like the Football Sunday snacks better than the game.
I really have no patience for playing Chess.
Grampy’s got his gardening but I can’t see myself doing that. I mean I’m pretty good at digging in the dirt but then he waters it every night and waits weeks and weeks for something to eat. I just go to my bowl twice a day and BAM! Kibble.
I tried what everyone does when searching for ideas: I went on Google. They had a few suggestions:
Baton twirling
Bowling
Candle making
Flower arranging
Hula hooping
I guess I’ll just focus on my strengths: more napping and more eating. I suppose you just have to be true to yourself.
