Woof Wednesday

Hi guys! It’s me, Oscar the Beagle.

Guess what? Last week was New Food Day! I love New Food Day!

That’s when me or Baxter need a new bag of food. Grammy and Grampy keep our food in two big containers in the cabinet but every now and then those containers get empty. It’s a sad day when they get empty. I try not to panic and sure enough, Grammy or Grampy make a trip to the kibble store.

We have two different containers because Baxter has a “sensitive system,” whatever that means. I pretty much eat anything but he gets salmon in his food. Well excuuuuse me!

New Food Day is usually grocery day too. Grampy brings in all the groceries and puts them up on the counter. He used to put them on the floor. I wonder why he changed that? I used to be able to sniff everything and lick a few too. For some reason he moved them up higher.

On New Food Day he brings in the big bag of kibble and leans it up in the corner. It’s almost bigger than me! After everything else gets put away he opens the bag and dumps it into the big container. He laughs at me because I try to lick the air. It smells so good. He usually gives me a handful of food and it’s not even dinner time. I try to stick my head in the container but he pushes me away. Some day I’m gonna get in there.

Other than that we’ve just been laying low because of the heat. I think the humans could learn from us. When it’s this hot, we don’t like to move much. I like to lay on the tile floor in the kitchen. It’s cool on my belly. I think Grampy would be much cooler if he would just lay on his belly on the tile floor. Maybe I’ll suggest it.

Grammy said something the other day about this being the Dog Days of Summer. Have you heard anything about that? Is it a holiday? Do I need a stupid bath? Do we get a discount at selected stores? A free lunch? Maybe free parking at summer destinations? I’ll have to look into that.

For the time being I just take it slow and stay near those weather boxes we have in the windows. I like those things. They keep the weather cool in the house. The weather outside the house is kinda ugly.

I think I finally got through to Baxter. He still wanted to go for a walk every morning even though we would get halfway down the block and his tongue would be hanging out so much he almost tripped over it. “It’s too hot dude!” He’s doing what I do now: get up from one cool spot and move to another one. Yup. Then do it again. Go outside just as long as you need to take care of things and then get back in. It’s not the most exciting time right now but it’ll do until the cooler times come.

It won’t be long before we have fuzzy blanket time again. That’s when Grampy snuggles with a fuzzy blanket and me his furry blanket.

AWWWWWWWWWWWW! Such a nice story. Oscar in turning me into Beagle person. And for Grampy, great columns. It can’t be easy to translate Beagle and get all the emotion and inflection in to the story. Keep it up, please.
