I find myself in deep thought as Spring develops around me. This year I’m really noticing and appreciating the flowers as they bloom and the grass as it wakes up from a winter of sleep.
I’m really thinking about the newness and color after the darkness of winter and I find myself thinking about how much that is a reflection on our lives.
As far as nature is concerned, this is a new year! It’s a time of rebirth and renewal! Just think of the possibilities!
Have you found yourself dealing with issues that could be considered your winter of darkness and despair? It could be anything really: your physical condition, a relationship, a career or an addiction. Spring is here and it’s time for renewal.
It never really came as a surprise to me that Spring and Easter were so connected. Easter morning comes and you dress in bright shiny colors. We always made sure that our girls had a new spring dress and the boys had a new bright shirt and tie or suit. The colors would be bright or pastel and we’d try to keep them dressed in it while they hunted for the brightly colored Easter eggs or at least to show Nana or to take a family picture.
Church would be filled with flowers: tulips and Easter lillies. Christ has risen so we celebrate the renewed hope for the world!
There is a lot more hope in the world for us too!
The flowers and trees are just developing and there is hope for them. They will face some struggles as we move on to the summer heat and maybe a drought. They might struggle but with help from us they might just get what they need when they are thirsty and the world is dry and hot. They are bright now and in the fall they will show their amazing color.
We too will face some struggles as we travel through what’s next but hopefully there will be someone there that can help us when we need it. They’ll nurture us back to health when we need it and then we can carry on and show how amazing we can be.
Come out of your darkness and into the sun. Be stronger than you ever were before and have hope. “Let your light shine” as they sing in “Godspell.”
Let a new you come forward this spring. It’s a new day and the darkness of your winter is gone, replaced by only by the hope that is in front of you.
