Woof Wednesday and Oscar’s Thoughts on Halloween

I hate Halloween.

Hi! It’s Oscar the Beagle taking over again.

Yeah you would think I’d like Halloween because of all the kids and that big bowl of candy I wouldn’t mind wolfing down but I’ve grown to not like this day.

I love kids and they have some really cute costumes but a lot of the bigger kids dress up scary.

Plus, a couple of years ago grammy and grandpy started putting me and Baxter upstairs with the door closed. Yeah they got tired of us barking everytime someone came to the door. That’s our job! Strangers coming to the door threatening to do a trick if you don’t give them candy.

Hello???? Protecting the family here!!!

So right after the humans have their supper we get sent upstairs where grandma or grandpa closes the door and we wait. I know what’s going on because I can hear them. Baxter usually barks a little because we know there’s something going on but aren’t allowed down there.

Later in the night they let us come down stairs and we go right to the door but the kids are gone. We do get a doggie cookie though. I think we should get all the leftover trick or treat candy but they never seem to see things my way.

I don’t know who came up with these holidays but Halloween is a little confusing. You dress up in funny clothes or a mask, go to a total strangers house and get candy. What is It they say, “Trick or treat?” Does anyone ever choose “trick?” Anyone?

Is that like, “sit?” “Speak?” “Paw?” Do you get more candy if you do the trick?

I do like the next holiday. That’s Thanksgiving right? Grammy cooks all day and the house smells FANTASTIC! I gain five pounds just sniffing!

What I really like is when grandpa carves the turkey thing. He is such a clutz. So many pieces fall off the counter! I just camp out near his feet. If it hits the floor, it’s MINE!

Thats what I’m thankful for.

Clean up is good too. There’s never enough space for all the dirty dishes so one or two of them stays within my reach.

Yeah, that’s what I’m thankful for. Oh, that and my buddy Baxter. My humans always try to be fair. If Baxter gets a piece of food that drops, I get one too.

Plus Bax is fun to hang with.

Oh one more thing…….

I’m happy that baseball thing is over. What do you call it….the World Serious? Now we can go to bed at a decent hour.
