Happy New Year! Really!

Happy New Year my friend!

No I haven’t lost all track of time. Every year I feel this way after Labor Day because we are all back where we belong.

School has returned and high school sports are back. I did my first football broadcast for this year on Friday night. I was in Barnstable where the Triple E scare is not so severe.

Church is going back to its regular schedule today. (They start a half hour earlier in the summer.) They even call it “Welcome Back Sunday.

I think Scouts return this month; my friend’s bowling league is starting again; and I think Congress is back in session. (I’m not sure and I won’t check because this is a Politics-Free Zone.)

Everything seems to be starting again. The NFL is back and we’re back to our Sunday Funday routine. Just when I figured out what to do with myself on Sundays I’m now back to my regular routine until February.

While football is starting this very unusual Red Sox season is ending. I guess we won’t have post season excitement this year but look on the bright side: You won’t lose a lot of sleep watching those playoff games that end around midnight.

All of our favorite TV shows will be BACK. I’ve watched everything I had on DVR and I’m struggling to find good ideas on Netflix. This is the month when DANCING WITH THE STARS returns, it’s September 19th.

The week of September 23rd is big as a number of CBS Shows return: BULL, NCIS, NCIS:NEW ORLEANS, FBI, SURVIVOR, YOUNG SHELDON, HAWAII 5-OH, MAGNUM PI, BLUE BLOODS, 60 MINUTES, GOD FRIENDED ME and NCIS LA.

NBC brings back: THE VOICE, THIS IS US, NEW AMSTERDAM, CHICAGO MED, PD AND FIRE, SUPERSTORE, LAW AND ORDER SVU, and THE BLACKLIST.

ABC will return: DANCING WITH THE STARS, THE GOOD DOCTOR, THE CONNERS, MODERN FAMILY, GREY’S ANATOMY, SHARK TANK and more.

And there will be new shows as well. I don’t think I watch anything live anymore. The DVR loads up and we watch when we have the time.

Have you noticed that it’s easier to find people now? It just seems like I get email returned faster or people are more likely to return a message faster than they do in the summer.

I think I’ve written before about my memories of going back to school and starting a new school year. The clothes were new and bright; the pencils were long; the pens were full of ink and your lunch box wasn’t scratched.

By the way, I was having a discussion with someone the other day about lunch boxes we had in the early and mid 70s. I think I had “Lost in Space” and “The Brady Bunch.” You know, the metal ones that could hurt ya? It had the little Thermos that clicked in?

Oh well.

We’re all back. Happy New Year!
