I stopped for gas the other day and the GSTV (Gas Station Television) wasn’t working. I don’t know why. Maybe it was too cold? I actually had to pump gas and had nothing to entertain me for three whole minutes!
I used to think those tv screens on the pumps were stupid until I realized it was another way for some company to make money and if there’s money to be made, somebody will make it!
That reminds me of a comedian I saw the other day on TikTok. He said, “Did you ever go to the bathroom and forget your phone? Aww man! What do I do now?” Uh, you could go to the bathroom.
Why are we so afraid to be by ourselves with just our thoughts? This from a guy who almost didn’t go to the gym once because he forgot his ear buds.

Why do most rest areas only have cold water for you to wash your hands? I noticed that recently on a road trip to Virginia Beach. That’s a 12-hour drive there and another 12 hours back. I think there was just ONE rest area that had hot water. Is it cheaper? Safer?

Have you ever been somewhere and the same ring tone you have goes off on someone else’s phone? Even when you check your phone to make sure the call is not for you, you find yourself getting angry. “That’s MY ring tone!”

Does anyone else miss the Sunday paper? It used to be nice to come home from church, make a cup of coffee and go through the Sunday paper. There was the Sports section, the comic section and the flyers! I miss those flyers on Sunday morning from the stores.

Does anyone else suffer what I call “new jean anxiety?” That’s the feeling that you didn’t get all of the tags off your new jeans before you wear them. You twist and turn to try and see if you missed one so you won’t get called out at work.

Championship Sunday this weekend in the NFL. The Patriots play the Broncos in Denver at 3pm. Then the Rams play the Seahawks in Seattle at 6:30pm.
This used to be the best weekend for football but I think, lately, the Divisional Round is better. That’s what we saw last weekend. There were some really good close games.
Who do I like this weekend? I think New England can beat Denver. The Patriots were undefeated on the road this year and Denver is going with a backup quarterback. I go back and forth with the NFC match up. Seattle? Los Angeles? I think I’ll go with the Rams.

I’ve found myself going through my closet lately and getting rid of some things. My church has a thrift shop so I donate the items.
I had some shirts and a few sweaters that I just don’t wear anymore. I figured there must be a reason I keep going by them so if I’m not going to wear them, why not give them to someone else that might appreciate them.

The Winter Olympics start February 6th. Do you plan to watch?
I find myself more attracted to the Winter Olympics instead of the Summer Olympics. I think it’s because I’m stuck inside more in the winter so I turn on the TV. In the summer I’m busy doing things.
My favorite events to watch at the winter games are the Luge and the Bobsled. I also like ski jumping and believe it or not… Curling! There’s just something about the Luge though. Throwing yourself on, basically, a sled and holding on for dear life as you go racing through frozen ice chutes.
Curling has always interested me. First because it seems to be a sport where you don’t have to be in terrific shape. Wasn’t it started in Michigan or Minnesota where the weather sucks? I’m sure alcohol was always involved.
I’ve also tried curling before. I was doing a morning show in New Bedford, MA once when I started talking about curling and was invited to the Cape Cod Curling Club to give it a try. Who knew there was one nearby? It was fun and a bit challenging.

And lastly, I had a great time last week interviewing the New Bedford High School Swimming and Dive Team. Like I told the student/athletes, I don’t think they get the attention the other sports do and I was out to change that.
I admitted to the coaches and athletes that I knew nothing about competitive swimming except what I see on the Olympics every four years. I learned a lot and met some great kids.
You can see the show by clicking here and many thanks to my producer and videographer Dana Debarros. He did amazing work on this (including the underwater GoPro.) The behind the scenes crew at New Bedford Cable make my job easy. All I have to do is show up and ask questions.
Well those are my random thoughts for this week. Stay safe, stay warm and for my friends in Florida and family in Texas: watch out for sunburns and stay hydrated!
