My Resolutions For 2026

I’ve never been one to seriously make any New Year Resolutions. Every year I seemed to make the same ones: Eat better, exercise more and get more sleep. Then I would stay up too late, eat junk food and be too tired to go to the gym.

This year I did make a list:

This year I resolve to finally win the Powerball. I mean it’s about time! I’ve been putting this off for far too long!

I also plan to use all the gadgets in my kitchen. We’ve probably had that pasta maker for close to five years.

This year I will also find a use for all of those extra cables and adapters I have in a box upstairs. Oh who am I kidding?!!

Also, I plan to fit back into those jeans I’ve moved to the back of my closet. Or donate them to the thrift shop, whichever comes first.

Seriously though….

A friend of mine posted a great meme recently. It was titled, “18 Things To Let Go Of Before 2026.”

  1. Clothes you haven’t worn in a year. (Those jeans.)
  2. Expired makeup and skincare.
  3. Broken gadgets collecting dust.
  4. Extra cables you don’t need.
  5. Books you’ll never reread.
  6. Old receipts and papers.
  7. Shoes that hurt your feet.
  8. Kitchen gadgets you never use.
  9. Worn-out towels and sheets.
  10. Outdated magazines. (“Grampy? What’s a ‘magazine’?”)
  11. Toys your kids outgrew.
  12. Decor that feels outdated.
  13. Junk emails cluttering your inbox.
  14. Apps you never open.
  15. Duplicate or blurry photos.
  16. Subscriptions you don’t need.
  17. Old files you forgot about.
  18. Negative friendships.

Some we can all use I’m sure.

There are two or three resolutions I’ve been thinking about.

Talk less and listen more. I admit this will be difficult when I’m on the radio but I think it could be beneficial in other areas of my life.

Eat less and move more.

And my final goal is to write everyday for at least thirty minutes to an hour. Yes, your friendly neighborhood blogger here usually writes when the spirit moves me. I’ve studied some of my favorite authors and they seem to write every day, some for eight hours a day! That might be a little difficult and I don’t expect to become the next David Baldacci but I think I can accomplish a half hour or hour a day. I think it will be helpful. We’ll see how I do.

Whatever your hopes and dreams are for the new year I wish you nothing but health and happiness. The older I get the more I realize that we’ll be alright as long as we are healthy and happy.

I always like to think of the new year like a new notebook. It’s all nice and neat with 365 blank pages just waiting for us to fill them up! May the good outweigh the bad.

Happy New Year my friend!
