”Raising Grampy” And Another Happy Birthday!

(“Raising Grampy is an occasional series written through the eyes of Pete’s grandson Liam. Liam is now 6-years old and lives in Corpus Christi, TX with his mommy and daddy.)

Hi everyone! It’s me, Liam, and guess who came to Texas? Oh I guess I’ve used that line before. It was Grampy! And Grammy! And my Auntie Kat with Baby Carson! They came to celebrate my birthday. I’m 6 years old! That’s a lot younger than Grampy. He’s old!

This is Baby Carson’s first trip to Texas so I’m trying to show him how we do things down here.

Rule #1- It’s hot! It’s pretty much always hot. I think it cools off for maybe three days after Christmas. Then it gets hot again.

They all flew in from Massachusetts last weekend.

I was so happy to see them. Do you like my sign?

We got Grammy’s suitcase but Grampy said his suitcase and Auntie Kat’s went to Chicago! I’m not sure where that is but I know it’s not here. Grampy asked me if he could borrow my underwear. Silly Grampy!

They were lucky because their suitcases made it to Texas that night. My daddy and Grammy went back to get them. “Wear your own underwear, Grampy!”

Monday we had a pizza party at my school for my birthday.

One day we went for a ride in the car to San Antonio. Baby Carson was a “cool dude” with his sunnies.

We went to a nice Mexican Restaurant on the Riverwalk.

I had a quesadilla. (Boy that’s a lot of letters.) Carson had a bubba.

The grownups wanted to go see the Alamo.

Mommy said there was a big battle there a long time ago. I think that was back when Grampy was a little boy.

We also went to LEGOLAND. It was so cool! We played with all kinds of toys and built race cars. I let Grammy win. She was a little excited.

Carson and I have had a lot of fun this week.

I even showed him some TV shows I used to watch with Grampy when I was a kid.

I’m having my birthday party with my friends today at a trampoline park. I’m sure Grampy will love bouncing! We’re going to have pizza and a birthday cake I helped Grammy bake. Just call me Chef Liam!

We still have a few more days before they all fly home. Grampy says he’s not leaving Texas until he gets his brisket. I’m really not sure if he comes to Texas to see us or to eat brisket.

Anyway, I have to teach Baby Carson how to stay up after his bedtime; how to keep making noise after the grown ups say it’s quiet time; and how to educate Grampy about Pokémon!
