(“Raising Grampy” is an occasional series written through the eyes of Pete’s five-year-old grandson Liam. Liam lives in Corpus Christi, TX with his mommy and daddy.)
Hi everyone! It’s me, Liam, and this week I took Grampy with me to Texas.
My mommy likes to say Grampy brought me home but I think that’s just to stroke the big guy’s ego. We all know he would have been lost without me.
I had a great time visiting all my cousins. First, mommy and I flew from Texas to Virginia Beach where I met my cousin Ella. We stayed with my Uncle Doug and Auntie Marla. I fed Ella and we played with some of her toys. She giggles a lot.
Then Grammy and Grampy came down and spent a few days before we got in Grammy’s little blue truck and made the lllloooonnnggg drive to Massachusetts.
Mom spent a week with me. We went to the beach and took the train to Boston to see the ducklings at the Boston Common. “Make Way For Ducklings” is my favorite book.

I even have a map that shows where the ducklings lived. I brought my map so we wouldn’t get lost.
We also went to see my Uncle Matt play his guitar and sing.

Oh! Professionally he’s known as Hunter. I’m Liam. Professionally known as Liam.
Then it was time for Mommy to fly home. I was sad when she left but I got to stay with Grammy and Grampy for another week. I got to hang out with my cousin Carson. He’s only about a month or two old so he sleeps a lot. And cries. I fed him a few times and then when he cried I gave him back.
I had so much fun with Grammy and Grampy. We went to the beach and went for ice cream. We had camp fires in the backyard and I was in charge of toasting the marshmallows.
I also played golf with my Uncle Matt, Uncle Josh and Grampy.

Grampy lost three golf balls. Oh, he probably didn’t want me to tell you that.
After a week it was time to go back to Texas. Kindergarten was starting so I had to get back.
Like I said, no matter what he tries to tell you, I took Grampy to Texas. I had to show him how to set up my tablet and how to ration the snacks.

If it wasn’t for me, he would have eaten all the Goldfish crackers on our first flight.
We had to wake up wicked early. We were supposed to leave Wednesday morning but I think it was still Tuesday night!
Grampy and I flew from Boston to Dallas. Grampy uses a wheelchair at the airports so I walked alongside holding his hand. I didn’t want him to go the wrong way. In Dallas we got to ride on a golf cart from one terminal to the other. But, we never got to play any golf! It’s a good thing because my golf clubs were in my suitcase. And Grampy probably would have lost more golf balls. Sorry Grampy but you know it’s true.

When we finally got to Corpus Christi I was so happy to see my mommy and daddy! I hadn’t seen Daddy in a long time. I was afraid he sold my room!
Grampy stayed with us for a few days.

I got my new lunch box the day after we got home. It’s a Star Wars lunch box.
Daddy got me some new Pokémon cards and a Pokémon game! I showed all of it to Grampy and I think his head is still spinning!
We took Grampy to the Aquarium on Sunday. I like the aquarium and I take Grampy there a lot. I like to see all the animals. Grampy likes the air conditioning.
Grampy also likes his Texas barbecue. We went to one of his favorite places.

It’s called Rudy’s. Grampy calls it “the Promised Land.”
Soon it was time to start kindergarten. It was fun to be back in school and see my friends.

I was sad when we had to take Grampy back to the airport. I’m going to miss him but he misses Grammy so I’ll let the big guy go. I hope he doesn’t eat all of his snacks on the first flight.
This time he said he’s coming back next month for my birthday! I’m going to be 6 years old! I don’t know when next month is but I think it’s the day after tomorrow. I’ll let you know.
