“Pete’s Daily Connection”

Raising Grampy and Meeting the Cousins

“Raising Grampy” is an occasional series written through the eyes of Pete’s grandson, Liam. Liam lives in Corpus Christi, TX with his mom and dad.

Hi everyone, it’s me, Liam, and I’m having a very busy summer! My mommy and me are off to meet my new cousins!

We got to the airport in Texas really early the other morning and I was all excited to go visit my “CUTIE BABIES!!!” I wanted to teach them how to play “Candy Land” but mom said they might be too young.

First we flew to my Uncle Doug and Auntie Marla’s house in Virginia Beach to meet my new cousin Ella. Mom said we used to live in Virginia Beach when the Navy sent my daddy there. I did remember some of it.

My cousin Ella is 6 months old. I had fun feeding her and playing with her toys with her. We even did some “tummy time” exercises. I’m really good at that now.

Grammy and Grampy showed up on the Friday. It was so cool to see my Grammy and the big guy! It was hot in Virginia Beach like it is in Texas. We spent a lot of time in Uncle Doug’s pool. And we even got Grampy to go in the pool a few times! You know it must have been wicked hot!

Ella even discovered Grampy’s beard. I told her we call him “Fuzzy Grampy.”

After a few days, me, mommy, Grammy and Grampy all got in Grammy’s Little Blue Truck and started the loooonngg drive to Massachusetts. I watched a bunch of shows on my tablet while the adults just talked…and talked…. and talked. Maybe I should have let them use my tablet!

The next day I met my new cousin Carson. He lives with Auntie Kat and Uncle Josh. Carson is one month old so I have to show him EVERYTHING because babies don’t know all the stuff that I do.

I have to show him Paw Patrol and Bluey. Plus my dad and I now collect Pokemon cards. I tried to explain it to Grampy but decided to stop when his head started spinning.

I helped feed Carson with his bubba.

It’s also fun sometimes to watch him sleep. This kid sleeps a lot! Grampy says I used to sleep a lot when I was a baby. Now I’m a big kid and I don’t nap anymore. There’s too much going on and I don’t want to miss anything.

We took Carson to the beach one day. I was going to show him how to build a sandcastle but guess what?

Somebody fell asleep again! I gotta talk to this kid!

We were excited to go see my Uncle Matt sing. Oops! That’s my uncle Hunter. He uses his middle name when he sings.

Carson went too but…. you guessed it!

He slept through the show!

The show was at a farm and my Auntie Kat let me pet the horse.

They had some wicked big chairs too.

I asked Grampy to climb into the chair with me but he said he would need a crane to get out. Silly Grampy!

I’m having so much fun meeting my new cousins. Mom says I’m the oldest so I have to show them how to do stuff. I think I’m going to be super busy! Not only do I have to show them how to play Candy Land and what shows to watch, I have to tell them all about Grampy and how to handle the big guy. He can be a handful at times but he’s a pretty cool guy. Plus he gives the greatest hugs.
