I was looking back over this past week when I realized, not for the first time in my life, that nothing stays the same. It’s constantly changing, we just don’t always notice.
My adventures started when I was getting ready for bed last Sunday night. I went to brush my teeth and discovered I had brown water! AGAIN! This has been an ongoing problem for a few years in my town. Basically things needed replacing years ago but the politicians kept putting it off and putting it off until, guess what? Things started breaking down. Now it HAS to be replaced and it seems like it’s taking forever. But that’s another subject for someone else’s blog. Needless to say, I was a grumpy camper Sunday night.
Then Monday came and the sun was out! That’s been happening a lot here in Southern New England. It has rained for the past 13 Saturdays! Clears up a little bit on Sunday and then Monday is beautiful. Fortunately I’m semi-retired so I can enjoy a sunny Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday but I do feel for people that work all week and then have rain on their day off.

My rhododendron always looks fantastic this time of year and I always pause to appreciate it.
Tuesday was nice enough to go to the beach. My wife posted that it was opening day!
We are blessed to live near the beach and even more so that we have a neighbor who owns a private beach and they let us use it. We try to help out by keeping an eye on it and keeping it clean. We’ve been going there for over 40 years and it’s great having a beach in the neighborhood so we can go down even if it’s just for an hour.
Wednesday I was assigned to broadcast a high school baseball game and the home team, Bishop Stang, won to advance in the playoffs. I always wanted to be a baseball broadcaster. My dream job was to broadcast the Red Sox. That never came to be but I get my fix every now and then with high school sports.
So my week that started out with frustration on Sunday night turned out okay.
We also had the chance to check out my son, Hunter Braley, playing a gig in downtown New Bedford. There was good food and good music.
Growing up I heard it many times when I was a child: “This too shall pass.” When I was young I used to think, “Yeah? Well it’s not happening soon enough!” I was impatient when I was young. I wanted things to change and I wanted it NOW! You later learn that sometimes these things take time. Maybe there’s a lesson to learn and I was just too stubborn to learn it.
Mom always said, “Things will look better in the morning after a good night’s sleep.” I guess she was right.
Here’s hoping that when you have a bad day it doesn’t turn into a bad week. If bad days continue, maybe you need to adjust what you’re doing or at least how you’re reacting to things.
Whatever it is, this too shall pass. Tomorrow’s another day.
