Yes I don’t think I got a single thing done this weekend and I’m okay with that.
My granddaughter came to visit! Oh my son and daughter-in-law too.
Ella, who is now 3-months old, got here Thursday afternoon and stayed until Sunday. I cleared my schedule for maximum snuggle time.
There was a time where I would feel like I wasted the weekend if I didn’t accomplish something. We live in such a “Go! Go! Go!” society that somehow we feel guilty if we’re not always doing something.
I’ve learned to slow down. If you’re smart, age brings some wisdom. I THINK it has with me (at least some). And a health issue will also help you realize the importance of giving yourself a break. I always heard the phrase, “I’ll rest when I’m dead,” but since I had a stroke I like to say, “Rest now or you WILL be dead.” A little morbid? Maybe, but my point is you need to take care of yourself.
So yes, Ella came to visit the northeast relatives and friends. We went for walks (in between the raindrops), had plenty of snuggle time and snuck in a few naps. After all, it is one of my specialties. We had giggles and laughs and a friendly round of, “It’s my turn to hold the baby!”

My daughter, Kat, is expecting a baby in June so this was sort of a “preview” for her. Everytime she held Ella this weekend I wondered what was going through her mind as the anticipation builds.
I’m happy to say that our dog, Charlie, did just fine with a little baby in the house. He would walk by and give her a little sniff and a couple of times I saw him give her a little lick on the ear. He did get a little jealous when Grammy (his mom) was paying attention to the baby. (“Hey! Don’t forget me!”) But all-in-all he seemed fine, which is good because we’ll be babysitting the new little one after June.
It was so nice to have a little baby in the house again. And the best part of being a grandfather that I’ve found (or one of them at least)…. You get to snuggle and play with them and when they get fussy? You give ‘em right back to mommy or daddy!
I’m kidding! Sort of. I’m still happy to say I’ve got a few tricks up my sleeve to calm a fussy baby. It’s nice to see they still work.
So yeah, not much got done this weekend but there’s always tomorrow. Sometimes you just have to prioritize.
