Raising Grampy: Grammy and Grampy Come To Visit!

(“Raising Grampy” is an occasional series written through the eyes of 5-year old Liam. It started when Pete was providing daycare for his grandson in Virginia. Liam now lives in Texas with his mommy and daddy.)

Hi guys! It’s me, Liam, and guess who came to Texas? Grammy and Grampy! They came for my birthday party. Everyone else went home after cake and presents but not my Grammy and Grampy! They’re staying for two weeks!

First I picked them up at the airport. Well, mommy and daddy helped.

The next day was my birthday party. I helped Grammy make my birthday cake in the morning.

And then the BOUNCY HOUSE GOT DELIVERED!

I had so much fun with my friends. Oh, and Mommy and Grammy bounced a little too. Grampy couldn’t fit.

I got a lot of great presents including my own golf bag!

My two golf clubs kept falling down to the bottom of daddy’s and grampy’s bags so now I have my own. It comes with a place for my golf balls and I got a new golf glove just like daddy! My fingers aren’t as big as his but he can borrow it if he needs it.

That night we lit some sparklers and a few fireworks that we had leftover from the 4th of July. I forget when that was but back then daddy asked if I wanted to save some for my birthday and I said, “Yes! Let’s save five because I’m going to be five years old.”

When Monday came, Mommy and Daddy had to go back to work but I hung out with Grammy and Grampy. We had so much fun! One day we went to the aquarium. I have my own membership card so I paid.

We saw the Dolphin Show and the otters and the sharks.

Grammy loves flamingos!

Another day we went to tour a wetlands preserve.

We saw lots of nature stuff and in the building they had microscope things and I could look at butterflies and other cool stuff.

They also have a neat playground.

Grampy texted the family and said, “Who needs a slide when you’ve got a great hill!”

On our walk back Grampy found a cactus. I told him not to touch it but you know Grampy!

Just kidding. He didn’t really touch it but I have so much to teach this guy about Texas.

One day my daddy was off from work so we went to hit some golf balls.

Do you like my new golf bag? I’m not sure but I think I won!

Guess what Saturday was? The first day for baseball! And Grammy and Grampy got to come!

Grampy told me to tell you that I went 2-for-2 with 2 runs scored. He said I have a 1,000 batting average and he’s already calling scouts. I have no idea what any of that means but I got snacks when it was all over. I shared my animal crackers with Grampy.

Do you wanna know the best part about this week? Grammy and Grampy are STAYING FOR ANOTHER WEEK! They say they miss their dog, Charlie, but they love being here and I love having them. I guess Charlie didn’t have enough allowance saved up to buy a seat on the airplane.

We have another week of adventures coming up! Grampy said he might buy some cowboy boots and he keeps saying he wants more ribs and brisket. Silly Grampy. I can’t wait to see what we do next!

Pete, Have you thought of a children’s book series of your Raising Grampy Stories. Could be a winner. I don’t know if you remember me from WPLM. I was the Traffic Manager for the radio station. I retired in January 2017 to move closer to my grandkids that lived in Illinois and in 2022 we all moved back to Connecticut. I love your stories and have been following all your adventures. I was sorry to hear about Rob Monahan. He was a good guy. Well, maybe I’ll see you around.
