It’s coming. No matter what I try I can’t keep it from arriving. What’s that? My least favorite month of the year…March.
A couple of months ago we ranked our favorite months. I can’t remember mine exactly but it probably went:
- July
- September
- June
- August
- May
- October
- November
- December
- April
- February
- January
- March
Some of those could probably move up or down a spot but not March. Nope. Leave it right there at the bottom.
Why?
Well the weather sucks, for one thing. We get all excited counting down to the first day of spring and then March 20 arrives and…
Yes the gale force wind blows off the ocean, for days and days. The “spring season” for high school sports begins around the third week and you’re looking for your under armour and packing blankets and hand warmers for the kids. You try to watch their early season games from your car, with the heat on high. It’s just a tease while you wait for spring that never really arrives in Massachusetts until April.
I was spoiled the last two years because I was in Virginia Beach helping out with my grandson. It’s not beach weather there either in March but you can get some days in the 60s and the occasional 70 degree day. People start working on their gardens in March while back up here in Massachusetts it’s a distant thought until May.
This year though, I am determined. I want it to be different and not something I dread for the entire month. So what can I do?
I could look forward to watching Spring Training baseball games on the weekend but… there’s no baseball as of right now.
Maybe I could get carried away with the NCAA Basketball Tournament.
I used to pick an underdog and follow them for a week or two. That could be fun. That’s how I learned about Austin Peay University and their chant of “Let’s go Peay!” How could you not be a fan?
National Oreo Cookie day is March 6. That’s definitely a day to celebrate and maybe I’ll buy myself some Mega Stuffs.
Have you tried these? If you’re a fan of Oreos, and especially if you always eat Doublestuffs, you have to try this. It is Mega Stuffing and it is awesome! I tried them when I was in Virginia and I loved them. Back at home Priscilla says, “Oh that’ll be too sweet!” Yeah! That’s the point!
What else is coming up? Oh, we change the clocks on March 13. That’ll be cool with daylight getting later. Now if I could just get a guarantee of 60 degree weather to enjoy that extra daylight. Hello? Anyone there?
Of course there’s Corned beef and cabbage for St. Patrick’s Day. I’m not Irish and I really don’t celebrate the day much but we will have some corned beef.
I do like to read so I guess I’ll just continue.
I’m currently reading J.D.Robb. who is really Nora Roberts. That’s the name she uses for her Eve Dallas series. There’s 51 in the collection and I’ve only read three of them. That could work! I just hope I can find them all at the library.
Well, enjoy your March. This year I’m really going to try, but don’t expect my monthly rankings to change much. However…maybe I’ll be pleasantly surprised.
