Hi guys! It’s me, Oscar the Beagle and I am so excited! I mean….. I’M SO EXCITED!
It’s the most wonderful time of the year! (I should write a song with that!)
It’s Thanksgiving tomorrow! That has got to be the greatest holiday. Yeah there’s that thankfulness thing but I’m talking FOOD! And lots of it! There is so much that the humans can’t help it but spill some of it.
Grammy started the cooking today. She makes this stuff called Chex Mix that Grampy loves. I use my best “sad puppy eyes” and he can’t help but toss me some.
Then tomorrow the cooking starts early and seems to go all day. And the smells! I think I told you before how I just wanna lick the air it smells so good! There’s turkey and stuffing, potatoes and sweet potatoes. (Or is that a Yam? And what is the difference? I can’t say I really care. I’ll take both please.)
Then afterwards they have pie! I love pie! Who am I kidding? I love it all!
It does get a little dangerous in the kitchen. Grammy gets a little upset with me for always being around her feet but I have to make sure I’m in the right position if they need me for clean up. I take my job seriously! I do get my toes stepped on every now and then but don’t worry, I shake it off and get back in there!
One of my favorite moments is when Grampy carves the turkey. I’ve told you before how the big guy can be a little klutzy. Well just imagine him with that big knife, a serving dish, limited counter space and all the slices of turkey. It’s hot when it drops but I don’t care. Ya snooze you lose!
After dinner it’s clean up time. I offer to lick all the plates so that they can just put them right away but they never take me up on the offer. Hey, I’m just trying to be helpful.
Grampy usually takes a nap before pie time while he watches a football game. I’m pretty tired by that time too after all the help I give in the kitchen. I find a nice sunspot and stretch out for awhile.
Yes I know that it’s more than just a food holiday. I don’t ONLY think of food. Well maybe most of the time. I’m thankful for my Grammy and Grampy and how they take care of me when I’m not feeling good. I’m thankful for my Uncle Matt who seems to always keep some Cheez Its in his room. I’m thankful for my buddy Baxter who takes walks with me and for always having kibble in my bowl. It would be nice if there was MORE kibble in my bowl but I’m happy for what I have.
I hope you have a nice Thanksgiving and don’t forget to maybe drop a tidbit or two.
Now if you’ll excuse me I have to figure a way to reach that Apple pie.
